This includes open-channel design, storm sewer, detention basin design, and a number of other things. My favorite project was when I got to go to several restricted reservoirs throughout the state of Colorado. How would you describe your job to a 6-year-old? I make sure water runs downhill. What is the most challenging part of your job? Every project's different, so you really have to think through each project. Of course, that's what makes it fun too! How would you describe a typical Olsson employee? Dedicated, helpful, intelligent, ethical and fun-loving. What three words would you use to describe Olsson Associates? Collaborative. Creative. Exciting. What do you like most about working at Olsson? I love the environment—the people are really great to work with and so are the types of projects I work on. >>> Miscellany Favorite musician/group: The Beatles and Bush Favorite song: Glycerine by Bush or Mad World by Gary Jules. Favorite movie: Moulin Rouge and Indiana Jones Favorite junk food: Ice cream!! Worst job you ever had: Dairy Queen. As much as I like ice cream, I don't like smelling like it all day. Favorite city: Florence, Italy. It's just so different from anything here and has so much history and beautiful architecture. First thing you do when you walk into your house after work: Kiss the dog, kiss the husband, see if dinner's ready, and sit down with a bag of chips if it isn't. Superpower you’d like to have: Read peoples’ minds. It would just make life so much easier. Have you had a life-changing experience? Please explain. It's the hard times in life that have made me who I am today. You learn what you're capable of when you're forced to deal with situations, and those experiences make you a stronger person. How do you find balance in your life? I play in the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra and spend much of my free time with my friends and family. I work to live, not live to work! What one piece of advice would you give someone who is just starting his/her career? Have fun at your job. There will be stressful times, but don't forget to unwind at the end of those stressful days so you can go back to work refreshed the next day.
